Wakefield Miniatures, Wakefield  2014

A field of scale model architectural icons represents Wakefield’s most popular buildings in the forecourt of the New Wakefield Westgate Station. The sculpture engages visitors, introduces the cityscape and connects the station to the life of the city. As visitors and locals walk to and from the station they animate and reinterpret the skyline. The selection of public buildings was carried out with members of the public through an interactive exhibition in which people were asked to place stickers on card models of the buildings they felt characterised Wakefield.

The sculpture was commissioned by Wakefield Council, Beam and East Coast Rail. It was fabricated and installed by Millimetre. Photographs by Charles Hosea.
