The London Dresser, London 2012

The London Dresser is a large scale cabinet displaying small scale buildings. London’s architectural crown jewels are recreated as beautifully crafted scale model seats. By day the cabinet opens and the seats are arranged to create an informal social gathering space. By night the buildings were placed inside to create an interactive showcase and backdrop to the street. Each building was momentarily illuminated as people passed by and peer in.

The project was commissioned by the Mayor of London as part of the Wonder Installations series for the London Olympics in 2012. It was designed with Gabby’s University of Westminster students Hugo Bass, James Kirk and Preet Panesar. The structure and seats were fabricated and installed by Millimetre. Photographs by Charles Hosea.
